Quick answer

Short answer: yes. Switch to Octopus Energy with referral code share.octopus.energy/sepia-star-913. Octopus starts new customers on Flexible Octopus. The £50 credit is paid after your switch completes and your first Direct Debit, usually about 4 weeks. Once you've switched, Octopus helps you move to Intelligent Octopus Go.

Intelligent Octopus Go: smart-charge eligible cars from 7.6p/kWh, with whole-home off-peak from 23:30 to 05:30. You need a compatible car or charger, a smart meter Octopus can read and the Octopus app.

Caution: Octopus doesn't explicitly say the referral and Intelligent Go combine. But the referral is paid for switching supply, and we found no rule excluding later tariff changes. Checked 17 October 2026.

Step by step: from referral code to Intelligent Octopus Go

Step 1

Check your car or charger

Use Octopus's official "Will it work for me?" checker on the Intelligent Octopus Go page. If your car or charger isn't supported, Octopus Go works with any EV.

Step 2

Switch to Octopus with the referral code

Open the referral link (code sepia-star-913) and sign up online. Octopus says new customers switch to its standard tariff, Flexible Octopus, first. The switch usually takes about 3 days.

Step 3

Get a smart meter Octopus can read

You need a SMETS2 or Secure SMETS1 smart meter sending half-hourly readings. Octopus says connecting to a meter usually takes around 14 days, and it can book an installation once you've switched if you need one.

Step 4

Move to Intelligent Octopus Go

Once your switch is complete, Octopus will help you move to Intelligent Octopus Go. You accept the terms, then connect your car or charger in the Octopus app (iOS 14+ or Android 7+).

Step 5

Get your £50 credit

Your £50 referral credit is added after your first Direct Debit, usually about 4 weeks after you join. Note that Intelligent Octopus Go is currently fixed only, with a £50 exit fee.

Questions

Does the £50 Octopus referral work with Intelligent Octopus Go?

Yes, as far as Octopus's published information shows. The referral reward is paid for switching your supply to Octopus. Octopus asks new customers to switch to Flexible Octopus first, then move to Intelligent Octopus Go once the switch is complete. We found no rule excluding customers who later move to Intelligent Octopus Go. If you want certainty, check with Octopus when you sign up.

Will I lose the £50 if I change tariff before it's paid?

Octopus's terms say you lose it if you cancel your agreement before your supply starts or before your first Direct Debit. Moving to another Octopus tariff isn't listed as a reason. Octopus can review or change the terms, though.

Can I join Intelligent Octopus Go straight away?

No. Octopus says new customers switch to Flexible Octopus first, then it helps you move to Intelligent Octopus Go once the switch is complete. You also need a smart meter it can read, sending half-hourly readings.

How much cheaper is 7.6p than the price cap?

Ofgem's average Direct Debit electricity unit rate from 1 October to 31 December 2026 is 26.32p/kWh, with no VAT on electricity from 1 October 2026 to 31 March 2027. Octopus works out 7.6p as about 70% less (1 − 7.6/26.32). That covers unit rates only, not standing charges, and regional rates differ.

Is Intelligent Octopus Go fixed or variable?

Octopus says it's only offering fixed rates at the moment, with a £50 early exit fee if you move tariffs or suppliers.
